Another Floor Update – Will it Ever Get Done?

I bet you have been waiting to see the completed project and my new floors. Sigh…. So have I.

As you may have read in my other update post, we had some set backs when preparing for the new floors. During installation, we have had a few more setbacks. Here’s a list:

DAY ONE

  • Water valve (that connects to clothes washer hose) was leaking. Ended up causing a puddle in the laundry room and they had to wait to let it dry before installing.
  • Water in the house had to be turned off completely until we got the valve replaced which was a day later. (That was fun)

DAY TWO

  • Everything was going great, they were going to finish that day. …Until they had to move our entertainment center. It is very heavy and so we put it up on a glider that had wheels so it would be easier for them. It was working great until the had to move it to the area of the floor that was already finished. It was so heavy that the wheels were indenting the new floors. AHHH!!! They had go back rip out new floor and replace the planks. That took a whole day. I felt so bad.
  • Installer mentioned that he may not have enough floor to finish. WHAT?!

DAY THREE

  • They ran out of floor. Installer said even if he did not have to replace the other dented planks, they still would have ran out. They measured it too tight and so they called it in to order more, packed up and that was it. They were gone.
  • Our floor boxes included smaller planks which he did not use a lot of except in certain spaces. So we have a lot of small planks left. (You can see them in above picture)

As of right now 3/4 of my house is done yet I cannot bring anything back in because they decided NOT to put in the baseboards until the floor is completely finished. I got back my stove/oven but a majority of my pantry is also in boxes that are packed in my garage. We have no DirecTV since the main box was installed downstairs and it has to be reinstalled since a line originally came through a hole in the floor. And there is no way we are drilling a hole in the new floors (they are coming today to see how they are going to reinstall it). So Netflix and AppleTV have helped. My kids have discovered old toys and board games they used to love and they are enjoying those again.

I was able to bring back my appliances but the washer/dryer will have to be moved out again when they come back, which will be after November 8th (since the floors won’t be delivered until at least November 5th).

As you can probably tell, this delay now furthers the delay with my session schedule. I have already had to push back 3 sessions. I am not scheduling anything else until I have more info on when this project will be done completely. This was not part of the plan. This is NOT how this was supposed to go. This has been a lesson in patience, contentment and appreciation for my family and I. So far we are not going bonkers. Here’s what’s helping…
