  • We are Permanently Closed

After serving Oak Harbor since 2006, I have closed my doors officially. I am still on Whidbey Island, but no longer offering photography services or learning classes on a regular basis. I am only offering Preschool Portraits for Ms. Ashley's Preschool in the spring.

Past clients may be able to purchase digital images from their past sessions if they are still available on my archive drives. Contact me for more info.

If you are a photographer inquiring about the possible purchase of my props and/or backdrops, many of my items are listed on Facebook Marketplace. Feel free to contact me for direct links or to inquire about anything you see in y portraits that you are interested in to see if they are available.

Thank you for trusting me with your family portraits since 2006. I loved working with you all.

Annual School Portrait Mini Session Poll

I know it’s still early, but I’m going to mention my annual school portrait mini sessions. I sent out a newsletter that had a questionnaire/poll in the beginning of the month and got a few replies. But I am hoping for more so I wanted to post this here.

As you may already know, I am planning on offering the annual School Portrait Mini Sessions this fall. I am considering a few changes and would like to get some feedback from you.

This poll is confidential, we do not require a name or email address to be associated with your answers. But all fields marked with the * are required. THANK YOU!

Never a Dull Moment

If you follow me on my personal page or know me personally, then you know that since we have added two cats to our family, it’s been quite an adventure. You’ve probably seen the pictures, watched the videos and read many stories about just how crazy they are or how crazy they drive me. Here’s another story.

A few days ago I mentioned on my Facebook page that I took out my camera for some “for me” images. I wanted to just get a few images of the flowers growing around my house. When I did this, I started on my front porch. I began to take some images of the flowers in my pots. As I took images of these little flowers by my door, one of my cats was sitting in the house watching me (my door was open). I was taking images of a little cluster of flowers that were all blue. (These flowers are as small as my pinky finger nail.)

When I was done, I stood up and walked inside making sure the cat was in and out of the way. But then I remembered that there was a small cluster of these little pink & blue flowers. So I opened the door, stayed standing and was looking straight down at the flowers as I took the pictures. I then walked back into the house, shut the door and proceeded to my backyard for more photographing fun.

Hours later, I began to take a look at the images I took. I was on my computer when I heard a meow. Of my two cats, only one meows all the time. His name is Dash (I often call him “the white one”) and he loves to talk… Well mostly complain. The other cat is Bandit and he only meows when he is scared or really, really hungry. When I heard this meow, I thought it sounded like Bandit. I figured his brother was hiding and he could not find him again. But soon Bandit came upstairs and was quite playful so I figured he was fine.

I then went downstairs to clean up and get ready for bed. Bandit followed me. The first thing I noticed was the front window was open. So I closed that first and proceeded to tidy up. Bandit kept chasing my feet, wanting to play (or so I thought). My daughter soon came down telling me that she could not find Dash. No big deal, he is hiding again. I started to call for him and look in his hiding places. He did not come and I could not find him. So I began to look in new places.

At this time, my kids were getting a little nervous. My daughter was beginning to panic and I had to make sure my middle child (boy) stayed in his room before to stressed out. My eldest son came down and we started looking together. I was in the back of the house and my son was in the front. The next thing I heard was, “Mom, he’s outside!” What?! Sure enough, my son heard little nails tapping the window, he looked through the blinds and Dash was on his hind legs with his paws on the window trying to look in. (Poor cat, at least he did not run away) We opened the door and he came right in and ran to the back of the house. His brother was glad to see him and was smelling the “outside world” on him from nose to tail.

After petting him and assuring him that he was ok, I then reassured my two younger kids that he was fine. They were both so scared that someone took him or that he would have got hurt. He was outside for about 4 hours. He never left the porch. He was either really scared or just smart. All in all, he is fine. Hopefully he never goes outside again.

As I started going over that day, I think it was when I went back outside to take that second set of pictures of the pink & blue flowers that Dash slipped out. He must have walked right passed me and I never knew it. I just took the pictures, and walked right back in not even giving it a second thought. I think that meow I heard was Dash, not Bandit. I also think Bandit kept chasing me as I cleaned up the downstairs because he was trying to get my attention about Dash. I guess I should not have ignored him. (We ended up buying collars with bells on them so we can now hear them when they are walking near us)

Every time I see this image I am always going to think of our cat and the little “oopsie” we had. I added the quote and giggled because he was right next to these flowers when we opened the door.

Making Memories Sometimes Means Breaking The Rules

June… school came to a close and summer began. The last few weeks of school I was all over the place. I had daycare sessions, flag practice, school awards ceremonies, dentist appointments, car appointments and a whole lot more. It’s like I waited until the end of the school year to get everything done. Oops…

But alas, no more alarm clocks. Except for my internal one that keeps getting me up at 6:15 am. No more homework and no more lunches to be made. I mean I still feed my kids lunch, but no more lunch bags. You know what I mean!

The weather has been amazing. Sunny and warm… no, sunny and hot. Hot for us PNW peeps that is. It’s the high 60’s and we are toasty. Get in the 70’s and we are hot. Hit those 80’s and we are melting. For me, the sun and heat are not very nice to my skin. As most of you know I have a sun allergy. Although sunscreen helps, the heat itself will make me swell and break out. I have to make sure I stay as cool as possible. There is no air conditioner in my house, so I rely on water and darkness. We have had a breeze which helps so much.

I’ve been watering my yard so it stays pretty and green. Have to do it in the evening of course when the sun is going down. We have veggies and fruits growing in the back, so I’m out there watering daily. Tonight my youngest decided to help me set up sprinklers and then she decided to let the water hit her a little bit. Then a little more. Next thing I knew she was soaked. She was having fun so I went inside the house to get my camera. At that time she recruited one of her brothers. Sure enough he joined in. He had his jacket and shoes on. No holding back… they were having a blast. Bathing suits? Who needs them!?

My neighbors driving by probably thought I was crazy or maybe they smiled watching them being silly. Or maybe they laughed as I ducked from water as I took pictures of them. Either way, we all had fun. The smiles on their faces were worth the trails of water in the house. Here’s some pictures from this evening. Already have a few chosen to print.

Can’t wait for July to come. Holiday, birthday and more summer fun. 🙂
