Past clients may be able to purchase digital images from their past sessions if they are still available on my archive drives. Contact me for more info.

If you are a photographer inquiring about the possible purchase of my props and/or backdrops, many of my items are listed on Facebook Marketplace. Feel free to contact me for direct links or to inquire about anything you see in y portraits that you are interested in to see if they are available.

Thank you for trusting me with your family portraits since 2006. I loved working with you all.

The Curly Girly Boutique Spring Line – Model Session

I work with The Curly Girly Boutique  throughout the year as part of my Portrait Coterie program. They are local here in Oak Harbor, WA and create such adorable cute handmade kids clothing. Whenever there is a new seasonal line we get together, get outfits set then do a free model call. We did this spring line session back in March. She has already released the line and I am just finishing up the rest of the proofs from the session so the parents of models can view them. Just thought I would share here too. Oh, and yes, they make clothes & accessories for boys too.

If you would like to inquire about any of the clothing below, please contact on their Facebook page by clicking HERE. They still have some of these available!

Parents of the models: look for an email coming to you within a day or two with gallery log in info. 🙂

Because I Believe Images Should Be Printed – ALWAYS

I know it’s all the rage to share pictures on social media, I do it too. But when it comes to memories, I believe they should be printed and saved, not just snapped and shared.

Sometimes when we get a new camera, cell phone or any other little device that takes pictures, we get so caught up in “showing” everyone that we forget to save these for ourselves, for our kids, for their kids and so on. You know who else we may forget? Our grandparents who may not be too tech savvy. They may not have a computer or a cell phone and if they do, they may not exactly “get it” like we do. So they need prints. They probably have walls or shelfs with frames full of memories and loved ones. Maybe they have photo albums. Either way, we most likely need to make sure we update those pictures with new ones.

Last month I took my kids to the tulip farm. We love visiting every year and getting new pictures of them. Usually we just get a few individual images (since they don’t like to be too close to each for too long), but this year we got to get some together as well as some playful ones. I took over 150 photos that day (maybe more, I already deleted a lot). Some were of the flowers, some of the kids and some of scenery. Sometimes that happens. You just click away and BAM! Hundreds of photos!

Like you I too must filter through the photos, do a little cropping and editing. Then what? Share online right? Yep… but one thing I make sure I do is choose at least ONE picture to print immediately. This time, I printed two. These are canvas prints. I planned to give the smaller one to my parents, but changed my mind (sorry mom). I will be getting more prints and sending them out to family. I didn’t get around to doing Christmas pictures a few months ago, so they get Happy Spring pictures instead. 🙂

If you get caught up in taking pictures and end up with hundreds of them (from one event), here’s some suggestions to help you filter and get the best chosen and then printed.

1. Delete the obvious mess ups from your camera. You know the ones.. where you clicked the button too fast, too late or you had no idea you clicked at all. Then upload onto your computer.

2. Immediately DELETE all the bad ones: eyes closed or half closed, odd facial expressions, blurry and unfocused, too dark, too bright, unappealing pose, unappealing background. *Side note: If you are savvy with your editing software you may be able to fix the bright/dark ones. If you are still learning, it may not be worth the time to try to save them.

3. DO NOT DELETE any pictures with you in them if the only thing you see wrong with it is that you are there in the picture. We have a tendency to say, “I don’t look good”, “I am too fat” and so on. Your kids, your family, your loved ones don’t care. They love you as you are. They want to remember that you were there too, involved in their lives and proud to be a part of their lives and memories. *Side note: I struggled with this for many year. “I am just not photogenic” I used to tell myself. But you know what, my kids don’t see me that way. They see me as their mom and I want them to be able to look back and see how happy I was to be with them.

3. Do you have 5 of the same image? Choose the one with the best eye contact and/or expressions and then DELETE the rest. Do you really need 5 copies of the same image?

4. Moments.. they matter. Do you have images that make you say “Awww”, make you smile, make you tear up or genuinely make your heart skip a beat? Maybe images that make you laugh and laugh? Save those.

5. Pictures where the subject(s) are not looking… Well, what are they looking at? Are they looking at a loved one out of the image? Are they checking out an animal, a flower or something else that caught their attention? If the object they are looking at is in the image, keep it of course. If not, if the picture has genuine meaning and you remember why they are looking away (in case that part is not in the picture), keep it.

6. Now how many images do you have left? If it’s still over 100, you need to filter through again. I know you may think I am crazy, but I usually keep about 15-20 (or less) images from an occasion or eventful outing. Why so little? Because I have 3 kids, so that is about 2-3 poses each. A few together, a few a part a few with me and some with dad.

7. Do you have your final images that speak to you? Now PRINT THEM. Don’t leave them on a CD, a USB drive or anything else. Find your favorite and print it large, hang it on your wall. Print desk sizes such as 5×7’s and set them up on a mantle or shelf. Get a few of your favorites and make a coffee table or mini book or slip 4×6’s in a photo album you bought from the store. Don’t forget to send a favorite to grandparents, aunts, uncles and so on. If it’s around a holiday season, send them a card and slip in the image. They will love it!

What ever you do, print them and store them. Digital media is finicky, computers crash, CD’s/DVD’s fail, software gets updated and then it’s all gone. Don’t get to it later, do it now. I hope this helps you all out! If you have any extra advice or suggestions on how to make this process easier, feel free to share in a comment below!

Here are some online deals you may want to take advantage of. If your family/friends prefer to print on their own and are computer savvy, I suggest sharing through DropBox. It’s FREE and easy to use on a computer, tablet or phone. Enjoy!

I have used Easy Canvas for my recent pictures of my kids at the tulip farm shown above. I am very happy with the way they turned out. Mpix is the little sister of one of the professional labs I use for prints and products. They have a great variety of products and service. I have not used CanvasFab nor MyPublisher, but I have heard great things about them.

April is Almost Over… Phew!

As mentioned in previous posts, this is always the busiest month for me.  The month is already filled with special occasions and local events, but we added more to it. It’s been a lot of fun. I closed up (for sessions) but still have proofs to edit and orders to fulfill. So it’s been quite an adventure trying to juggle it all.

First it was Spring Break… a week off of school for my kids. We went bowling, went to the movies, went to see the tulips. Ate out… a lot. But we had a lot of fun running around staying busy and making each other laugh.

We took the opportunity to get some updated pictures of the kids all together while visiting the tulips. We are really not supposed to go in the rows, but we quickly went in and out to get some shots. It took time to get them calm and to stay in place for some good ones. They were so fidgety and of course, don’t like to be next to each other for too long. Once we got the good ones out of the way, we let them do some goofy ones. We “attempted” to get a shot of them jumping in the air, but instead it looks like they are just waving their arms. They just could not jump at the same time. It was funny and embarrassing at the same time. But I am still happy with the images. Good memories.

Then we slowed it down to celebrate my daughter’s 7th birthday. We don’t do big parties. Instead, we make a chocolate cake, get a few little gifts, balloons and celebrate with just our little family. Our extended family members don’t live here in Washington, so we get the webcams out and invite them to sing “Happy Birthday” and watch the blowing out of candles. We do this for all of the kids. So grateful for the internet on those days, keeps us all connected and able to celebrate together.

Then it was back to school for the week. We wanted to do something different for the weekend, so we headed to Friday Harbor. We wanted to stay overnight, but we have two little cats at home. So we just stayed for the day. While we were there, we checked out the museums, looked for whales (didn’t see any), walked all over and then we took the kids to the Horseshu Ranch for their first horse-riding experience. I must admit, we have been wanting to do this for years. But my kids were always scared and nervous. This time, they still were not sure about it, but they all gave it try.

They had an amazing experience. The Ranch did something extra for them because they knew it was their first time and that we were only there for a day. They mixed a private lesson with a trail walk. The kids got out there and did great. They even got to have the leads unlatched from the horses so they could do all the turning, stopping and going on their own. They LOVED it. Now, my little girl wants to continue lessons. So we are seeking info in our local area to get her riding lessons.

My youngest. She is now addicted to riding horses.

After that, we rested and then another week of school. Every Wednesday (beginning in the fall) I head over the Broad View Elementary School for Tall Flag Team (Color Guard) practice. Another teacher & I voluntarily coach 4th & 5th graders to twirl and toss flags. I was in my high school’s team and love teaching these kids. We have performed at our High School’s homecoming game, homecoming parades as well as other local parades throughout the year. We are the only flag team in our district. So all this month we had a few additional practices for marching and new moves to prepare for two local event performances this month; Artwalk and Holland Happening.

Artwalk is a celebration of the arts. All the elementary schools have chosen art from different students displayed on a strip in the downtown area. The artwork is displayed in the store front windows of the businesses. My middle son had a piece up. He’s quite the little artist. The flag team then performed their routine twice on the same street. Unfortunately we had some rain right before we began so not that big of a crowd as usual, but the kids did great and had fun.

Then two days later, it was time for Holland Happening. This is another annual event in our little town. It is to celebrate the dutch who came into Oak Harbor to develop and grow the city. There is a parade, carnival, street fair, lots of food, music and more. The Flag Team & I lined up for the parade at 10:30am and as always, it went so fast. The kids did so good! We received lots of ooh’s and ahh’s when they tossed their flags into the air. It was the first time any team had been taught that since we began teaching them over 4 years ago.

Once we finished the parade, I met up with my family, walked around a bit then headed home to let my feet rest. We returned later in the day so the kids could get on rides, get a funnel cake, churros and lemonade. We also walked through the street fair. I used to set up a booth every year. I must admit that it was nice not to have to worry about it this time around. 🙂

Now that April is almost over, we are slowing down a bit. Time for me to catch up on proofs, both professional and personal. We have more projects in mind and things we want to do. Will post about all that as it happens! Happy Spring everyone!

Under The Sea (Kind of) – First Birthday Session

April has got to be the craziest month of the year for my family. I’ll get more into that in another post. More importantly, the month gets so crazy that I fall behind with editing proofs. But I am back in the game and catching up quickly.

This was my very last session and it was wonderful! This was my first time working with this sweet family and I enjoyed it so much. Their little guy was into my goofy smiling gestures and when his eyes lit up it was enough to melt your heart. Thank you so much to mom and dad for their patience as I got through this month. Without further ado, here’s their sneak peek! To see one more image from this session, click HERE to view it on my Facebook page.

Last Family Session for a While

These past few weeks have been quite busy for me. I’m still working on proofs and portrait orders. I have quite a bit to catch up on still. I took last week off since it was Spring Break for my kids. I will post about that later. For now, I wanted to share a sneak peek for a favorite family of mine (I know, I have lots of favorites). I’ve know them for quite some time and was happy to have them as my last family session. I will admit, those kids made me work. Probably because they know me pretty well and wanted to play more than anything else. But, it was fun and definitely one I will not forget. 🙂 Without further delay, here is their sneak peek. To see one more image from this session, click HERE to view it on my Facebook page.
